Angel Fire, New Mexico 9/14 - 9/20

Oh what a welcome sight when we pulled into Angel Fire RV Resort after all of the sandy RV sites in Colorado.

The nearby Angel Fire Resort had a couples golf tournament so we signed up.  It is a beautiful course.  But most notable was that we golfed with an interesting gentleman.  He was the captain of the yacht owned by the creator of DirecTV.  He now manages the nearby Ranch and sometimes fills in as captain of the yacht.

We found a fun thing to do in nearby Red River.  We took the ski lift to the top of the mountain and joined a US Park Ranger for a hike and a ranger talk.

As we climbed the mountain we thought this was an interesting sight: "The snow flake factory."

And, here is all the equipment for the snow flake factory - a huge line up of snow machines!!

We finally made it to the top!

A perfect "we were there" photo at the top of the mountain at 10,350 feet!

We learned how to tell a Pine from a Fir and a Spruce by the shape of the needles and enjoyed all kinds of sights along the way!

Yes, that is a ski lift sign!!

The ranger finished with a display of antlers, etc. from the local wildlife.  The elk antlers weigh 40 pounds - oh my!!

After the hike we were ready for lunch so we stopped at Smoke House Willie's for some delicious smoked brisket and pulled pork - YUM!!

We were lucky and got a great deal at Pendaries Golf Course.  It was raining so we had a great lunch at The Moosehead Restaurant and got to watch the Kansas City Chiefs. When the sun came out everyone had left and we got to play this beautiful scenic course with no delays. This mountainous course, wrapped in ponderosa pines, ranges between 7500 to 8000 feet in elevation.

The road to Taos from Angel Fire is very windy but we could not miss a visit to this beautiful city.  First stop was for lunch at Lamberts on their patio.

Lots of shops and galleries, but how can you visit Taos and not stop at the Kit Carson Museum.  We started our tour with a video that stars Kit Carson's grandson as Kit.

Some interesting displays included a photo of Kit Carson, a timeline of his life and, for my Dad, Kit was a member of the Masons!

The house was larger than we expected with a beautiful garden.

We truly enjoyed Angel Fire, but its time to head out to our next stop: Santa Fe, New Mexico.
