We ended the season with one last Nine and Dine golf event. What fun! But what happened, I'm wearing orange and Bernie and Mark are in blue?? Good news is that we came in first. It was the two best scores on each hole. At the awards presentation I was recognized for one birdie, but Mark was recognized for four!!
We finished up our time in Palm Creek getting everything ready for our 2017 Spring/Summer Tour. New Batteries, oil changes, inverter repair, foggy window replaced, etc. This year we decided to move up to Surprise for a week to play some of the courses that are just a bit too far from Casa Grande. We tried Happy Trails RV Park. We got a chance to meet up with Spokane RV Park friends, Cathy and Steve, but once again, I forgot to get a photo. We played three different courses: Union Hills, Cortabella and Traditions.
We got a great price on Los Caballeros in nearby Wickenburg. We decided to leave Surprise a day early as Wickenburg was on our route to our next stop: St. George, Utah. The course was just beautiful, perfectly maintained and very high end. Mark said it was a "peachy" course!!
Loved the course, but the best part was sitting on the patio after our round and enjoying a delicious dinner of steak quesadillas, the best sweet potato fries, a prickly pear margarita (yup, its made with the addition of the crushed pulp of the red flowers from prickly pear cactus). At the end of the meal they bring you a basket of assorted homemade cookies to select for dessert. My favorite, the potato chip cookie - it was yummy!!
From Wickensburg we made our way to Utah via a new route, via Lake Mead!! It is actually shorter than the Interstate and far more scenic.
A short stop for Mark to stretch his legs and marvel at the beauty of the red sand!
And one last shot of the beauty of the journey - the road as it rolls past Lake Mead! That's about as close as we get to the lake.
Speaking of the journey, we have driven from Nevada to Utah many times and we never tire of the beauty of the section known as "The Gorge." It is where the road cuts through the mountains as it follows the Virgin River. This is just so overwhelming I just can't capture it in a photo. You have to experience it!
We have been to St. George every year that we have RV'd. But, somehow we always find something new. This year was a trip out to the art community, Kayenta. We had to get a photo of us on the chalk painting that creates the optical illusion that we are standing on ancient pillars.
One of the art galleries had all kind of wind sculptures displayed in a wind sculpture garden.
We live so many months in desert areas that we have come to really enjoy the desert plants. But, we are always trying to learn their names. The Kayenta Desert Arboretum had local and non-native desert plants with their names prominently displayed. We especially enjoyed the plants that were in bloom!
That's it for April. Next update includes May in St. George and our trips to Brigham City, Utah and Mountain Home, Idaho.
