St. George, Utah May 8 - June 7 , Part 1

We hit the road and went from Page, Arizona to St. George, Utah.  You know when you start seeing the rock that is unique to this area that we are getting close.

We love St. George Utah's Dixie Direct Card.  We bought the card for $25 and get great rates at golf courses, found someone to wash the RV for $50 and wonderful two for one restaurant offerings.  We took advantage of quite a few of these, but one was a real experience.  At The Anasazi Steak House they bring your steak seared brown on the outside but it comes to your table on a hot rock (700 degrees!) that is inserted in this nice ceramic container.  You get to cook the steak as you eat it.  Every piece is cooked to perfection and was nice and hot.  A very entertaining dinner!

How can you come to St. George and not take advantage of The Tuachan Theater.  This state-of-the-art facility features a 1,920 seat outdoor amphitheater surrounded by majestic red sandstone cliffs. Here is the staging used in "Mary Poppins."  Michael Banks, Mary's youngest charge, was played by an adorable 1st grader and he did an amazing job!  Mary Poppins flew in and out of the theater from the tops of the cliffs - what "knock your socks off" staging.  And, the fireworks literally lit up the sky.

To give you a feel for the size of the theater here is a shot from our front row seats to Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Starlight Express."

But I think you will agree the real fashion statement is the 3 D glasses accessory I am modeling in front of the stage that has lots of skating ramps added as this show is performed entirely on roller skates and Healy's.

Towards the end of May the weather did start to get a bit warm.  One day we packed a dinner and headed up to these Mountains which are at about 6800 feet at the base of the mountain.

Within 40 minutes we had the windows rolled down as we entered Pine Valley.

Mark found us a great picnic table that overlooked the lake.  It was
in the high 90's in St. George, but before dinner was over, we both had put on jackets!  The air was cool and fresh with that crisp pine fragrance permeating the air.  You can see the lake behind us through the pine trees.

After dinner we took a short hike on the trail around the lake.

We then toured the Pine Valley Recreation Area.  We stopped in one area and found this nice paved trail that meanders through the pines.
But the best part of the trail was all the benches that are set beside the river trail so you can relax to the sound of the water rushing over the rocks.

As we were heading out of Pine Valley we came across a very unique sight: three horses "moseying" down the road.  No owner, not inside a fence, just strutting down the street like they owned it and stopping to "chat" with a horse that was inside the fence.

We, once again, truly enjoyed all that St. George has to offer.   While we were here I subscribed to the local newspaper, The Spectrum.  We had so much fun that I took the time to write a letter to the editor and lo and behold, it got published!

Mark really enjoys canyoneering in the unique slot canyons in this area.  But, that's for the next blog update of our visit to St. George!
