Akron, NY - June 14-June 20, 2011

We left Meadville, PA and followed I-90 along our fourth of the five Great Lakes, Lake Erie.

Along this route we encountered rows and rows of grape vines, but these are not for wine!  These are the Welsh's vineyards that are for the "J" part of a PB&J - yup you guessed it - they are Jelly grapes!  There are literally miles and miles of these grapes.

There always seems to be one of those oddities on the road - my journey photos.  This sculpture sits in front of a local hotel near Akron.  This is based on a famous NY photo called "New York Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam."  The original photo was taken in 1932 on the 69th floor of the GE Building at Rockefeller Center.
We got to Leisurewood campgrounds.  I have quite a few photos of this for my fellow RVers.  This campground leases the lot for 99 years.  The one time lease costs, at this time, are between $3,000 and $6,000.  The annual fees which includes your electric, water and sewer is $1632 a year!!  They are only open from 4/1-11/30 - a pretty good deal for 8 months.  They have 2 pools, 2 tennis courts, shuffleboard, and horseshoes.  There seems to be something scheduled at the rec center every day.  If the bottom falls out of the market we have this as a back up plan!
Another benefit of this campground is that it is on the Akron bike path which is a paved rails to trails bike route.  It goes through lots of towns and villages for miles and miles, and, my favorite feature, it is very FLAT!!  There are also nice gazebos along the path to hydrate, grab a bite to eat and take a breather.
We also loved the golf in this area.  There were lots of wonderful and reasonably priced courses.  I could not resist capturing some photos on "The Links at Ivy Ridge" because it has the most beautiful facility we have seen on a course.  On the top right photo of Mark, if you click on the collage, you can actually see the golf ball in the air - we birdied this hole!!
On this stop we also visited Niagra Falls - but that is a blog entry all by itself!
