Scottsbluff, Nebraska - September 26 - October 3, 2010

We were so busy in Palm Creek that these stops did not get posted so now that we are making our way east for the "East Coast Spring/Summer Tour" I am adding these stops!

Scottsbluff was a wonderful surprise.  It was a visual landmark to the pioneers as they made their way West, and what a beautiful landmark it is.

We took a hike up the bluff and were plesantly surprised with the cell phone audio tour.  We just put the cell phone on speaker phone and enjoyed the audio description of each stopping point.

We also got a wonderful view of the fins of the bluff as well as the town of Scottsbluff from the top of the bluff.

We had a wonderful hike up the bluff and especially enjoyed the cool breeze as we hiked through the tunnel that takes you to the top of the bluff.

We learned a lot about the bluff including the natural formation of "concretions" (sounds like an alien species) - those slab like formations within the rock.

We had a wonderful time playing lots of golf courses and hiking in Scotts Bluff.  Tried to get the local favorite - a cabbage burger but no luck!  We had a great view of the bluff from our RV site and we were awed by the beauty of the sunsets - the clouds literally glow!

While we were in Scottsbluff we made a trip out to the Agate Fossil Beds.  Due to the natural forces of nature thousands and thousands of fossil bones of the animals shown in this diarama were excavated from this area.

We also took a hike up to see these natural tunnels that were fossilized from the formations created by an ancient rodent.

While we were in the area we took a trip out to see Chimney Rock, the crossroads to the West, a natural landmark that let the pioneers see the progress of their journey.

Next stop - Colorado!
