Washington State - July 2- July 7

We left Oregon and arrived at our next campground right on the Columbia River in Woodland, Washington.

Here I sit with a nice glass of wine, outside the front of the RV watching small boats, sail boats and barges float by. I didn't get a photo but Mark walked down to the beach and watched a couple bring in a salmon!

We played Golf at Lewis River Golf Course and I just could not resist the opportunity to take one of these "framed" shots!

On the fourth of July the campground put on a spectacular fireworks show...

on the beach, right over the Columbia River!

We didn't expect much, but as it turned out the highlight of this stop was definitely Mount St Helens. Before going up to the mountain we stopped at a visitors center for coffee and cobbler. That's not water on the ground behind us, its the blast zone made up of a bed of the ash, dried lava and debris from the eruption.

While we were there we found a true treasure...a collection of the newspapers published from March until a little after the eruption in May of 1980!

It was a cloudy day, which is not unusual, but I did manage to capture these photos of the Mountain...

and inside the top where on May 18,1980 the volcano erupted releasing gases 1300 feet high, winds that reached 670 mph and temps of 800 degrees F!!! Mark could not understand why there were large dead trees scattered on the surrounding mountains. Turns out they were trees that were thrown by the forces of the eruption.

Next stop Sequim, Washington
