Pahrump, Nevada - May 26- June 3

We got to Vegas and drove right on by...

We arrived in Pahrump and went right to the RV Campground that Angie and Frank, the King and Queen of Palm Creek Happy Hour Central, recommended. WOW, this place is absolutely one of the most amazing campsites we have experienced. With a full summer kitchen (instant lighting gas grill, additional burner and outside fridge) and your own private dining gazebo nestled in the beautiful landscaping, it is a Happy Hour dream come true! Add to that, two pools, a jacuzzi (that I am enjoying), a huge fitness center, a bowling alley and a putting green make for one amazing RV park. We had to extend our stay in Pahrump because the rear camera broke so we ended our stay at the KOA Nevada Treasure and checked in to Terribles Lakeside RV Park. What a wonderful reprieve from months of desert living. It is great to enjoy the relaxing view of grass, trees and a lake from our lounge chairs.

We then headed out to experience Death Valley National Park. We now have the unique experience of playing golf at 214 feet below sea level! The most amazing part of the golf was the coyote who freely roamed around the course!

The most popular site in Death Valley is Bad Water. The water is not bad, it is just so incredibly salty. At 282 feet below sea level it is the lowest elevation in North America. We have now experienced the lowest and the hotest place - over 110 degrees when we were there. You may not see it in the last photo in this section but being there you can see the heat come up off the salt table.

In addition to all this there were lots of interesting and colorful rock formations. The first photo is one that we named "Hot Fudge Sundae!" And the sharp curves of Artist's Drive had Mark taking the turns on what felt to me like two wheels. It was 9 miles of white knuckles but lots of fun! We did not go on any hikes as the Park Rangers continually warn about hiking this time of year and scare you with statistics of the people who have died on short hikes in the heat. We'll have lots of opportunities to hike in cooler climates.

We had fun wine tasting at Pahrump winery and really enjoyed the dinner at the winery's Symphony restaurant. But, no surprise, we spent most of our free time in Pahrump not in the casinos but on Mountain Falls Golf Course! We shot a "scramble" score of 77 one day and had to quit another day on hole #15 because it got too dark, but we were only 2 over!!!

We enjoyed Nevada but are ready to move on. Next stop Yosemite National Park!
