Utah Rocks - April 19-21

After having a great time in Moab we took off to Torrey, Utah to visit Capitol Reef National Park. When we checked in, the campground host highly recommended that we experience Burr Trail. Always looking for new adventure we unhooked and took off for Burr Trail. It is 66 miles of paved and unpaved car trail from Boulder, UT to Lake Powell. As we climbed the mountain we had to stop at one of the scenic overlooks to capture the view of the Henry Mountain Range and specifically Mount Ellen in the background.

The trail winds, and I mean winds, through the mountains of Capitol Reef putting you right beside huge mountains and lots of rock.

People love to figure out what some rocks look like. Here is one that Mark and I immediately identified as "Dog rock."

And some look like they are just floating on a sea of sand.

And after we drove up to the top of the mountains we had some major switchbacks to get back down to the bottom of the canyon. You can see a little of the switchbacks, but the Garmin GPS navigator screen says it all!

But we finally made it all the way to beautiful Lake Powell.

We found some houseboats for rent and took a tour. We just had to share with you the roughing it that you have to do on this 75 foot 6 bedroom two and a half bath houseboat. And yes that is a spa in the center of the top deck and a tv at the far end over the bar area!!! Not to mention the wine fridge, the flat screen tvs and the fire place...it was a very nice boat!!!

The next day we did the Grand Wash hike. Here are some photos showing: 1- Mark on the trail giving you a perspective of the size of some of the smaller mountains on this trail, 2- Mark climing up from the trail to a cave, and 3- some four legged friends...you tell us what they are!!!

Next stop Bryce Canyon and more rocks!
