We made the short trip out to the gorge and felt like we walked into another planet.
Hiking through the narrow tunnels, created by eroded siltstone, was one of the challenges!! You can see from the photo in the upper left, the passage way was just a little wider than my foot!
Here was one of the more challenging climbs that I didn't even attempt. But Mark easily made the climb up.
But he had to use some of his canyoneering skills making it back down! Lots of photos in this collage, but, he used so many different maneuvers to descend!
We had to get creative, but, we found some spots to balance the camera to take the "we were there" shots!
After we finished our hiking we took the car for the short drive to Miller's point for a view of the gorge from above.
What a great mid trip stop. Now its on to St. George, Utah. We have been to St. George many, many times over our 10 years of full time RVing. But want to share some of the highlights of our month.
First is the unmatchable Tuachan Theater. We saw "Matilda", "Cinderella" and "Prince of Egypt". Matilda blew us away because the star was a local 11 year old who was just flawless in a part that had a huge amount of lines, singing and intricate choreographed dance routines!! "Cinderella" somehow spun in a circle and within a fraction of a second she went from rags to a perfectly pressed gown. "Prince of Egypt" used all the Theater's amazing water effects in the parting of the Red Sea!"
This year we made our first visit to the Center for the Arts at Kayenta (pronounced Kay-en-ta). This show was called "Broadway" and was performed by John D. Smitherman. He starred on Broadway, as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables," the phantom in "Phantom of the Opera" and Tony in "West Side Story." We could not take photos or videos during the performance so this is the best there is. Needless to say, he was quite amazing!!
We love the uniqueness of Anasazi Steak House. They superheat a lava rock and you cook your own dinner. We shared a filet and were so pleasantly surprised when we were served a huge filet. And it was, soft as butter and super flavorful. Another great evening in St. George!!
One more show and it was outstanding! "Hello Dolly" and Dolly really "knocked your socks off!" She was as good or better than any Broadway leading lady. She even handed Mark her "business card" as part of the performance!!
We wanted to go to "Breakfast at Tiffany's," but ,found out that although St. George is exploding in population, it had closed. So, we headed off to Black Bear Diner. This is the breakfast for one. We split it and still had some to take home!!
Remember the boots in Elko, Nevada. Well, St. George has done the same thing with Bison. Kansas City started this years ago with cows. Its fun to see other cities get into the game.
We took advantage of the great service providers in St. George. We had a new slide cover installed over the bedroom slide, painted a wall that had a damaged area, recovered the seat cushions on the full sofa and had new runners made by the company that installed the carpet. In addition we had our hot water heater fixed and Mark found a solution for the back bathroom. But, the big one is we finally got rid of the huge chair that overwhelmed the space, knocked into the window screen and did not have enough space to recline. The table had a wobbly metal leg and never fit in the carpeted area.
I spent years searching for something that: would actually fit in the space, and would provide something that I could relax with my feet up and watch TV, or read ,or work on the computer. Finally, I found this!! It's perfect- not only fits the space but also is low enough that it doesn't block the window! The seat lifts and has a huge storage area (that's really important to RVers), and it is super comfortable!
Can't visit St. George and not make a stop in scenic Zion National Park. We just love the peaceful Riverwalk Hike.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Zion Lodge and and an after dinner relax on the Lodge Patio to chat with fellow visitors. That's a wonderful pecan crusted trout with a mango salsa over asparagus and a creative presentation of a humus appetizer with a maraghrita and a pear sparkling wine.
We got off the shuttle bus at an early stop and hiked the "Parus Trail" back to the car. The views of Watchman are just stunning!
Whew!! And I didn't even mention the tennis, pickleball, deep water aerobics and line dancing that was squeezed in between all of the above. Its now time to start making our way back to Arizona. Next stop Jacob Lake for a visit to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
