Chowchilla 3/26- 4/2, Sonora, CA 4/3 - 4/6 , Jackson, CA 5/7-5/11, and Vacaville, CA 4/12 - 4/15

The Lakes RV Park in Chowchilla was a park we have enjoyed in the past.  With every night you stay you get free golf at two nearby courses.  At Madera Golf Course we scored our personal best, 5 under par (scramble format). But, unfortunately, I lost my magnet bracelet while playing.  Two days later we decided to go back and play again. Believe it or not, on the first par three Mark found my bracelet on the side of the cart path.  Life is good!!

While in Chowchilla, we decided to visit Yosemite National Park.  On the way we stopped at the quaint little town of Mariposa for lunch.  At an ice cream shop we noticed these unique snacks.  The clerk admitted that she has not sold one - no wonder!!

We brought our bikes for a fun ride around Yosemite National Park.

It's the perfect time to visit because the snow is starting to melt and the falls are just great to watch!!

Here is an amazing view of El Capitan!
Next stop is Sonora, CA.  We found a wonderful lunch stop for us to enjoy the sound and beauty of a relaxing, quick flowing stream.
After a frustrating drive (we faced closed roads three times) we arrived safe and sound.  We played another fun golf course - Mountain Springs - lots of mountains!!  What a sight to see the wild turkeys "strutting their stuff!"
In every town we try to visit at least one of the top rated restaurants.  Talulah's in Sonora did not disappoint!!  The appetizer was a Danish brie with honeyed crostini. We had Italian bread, dipped in herbed olive oil. The entrée was a ravioli sampler with six types of ravioli, flanked by marinara sauce and alfredo sauce options with polenta. The best part was the Italian Lemon Crème Cake with a lemon simple syrup to pour over it!!  One of the best meals!!!

We went to The Sierra Repatory Theater, in nearby Columbia, to see the musical, "The Million Dollar Quartet."

On a Tuesday night, shortly before Christmas of 1956, Sam Philips, the owner of Sun Records, recorded the unlikely jam session with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins (who wrote blue suede shoes), Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.  In 1969, after browsing 10,000 hours of tape from the Sun Catalogue, the tape was "discovered" by Shelby Singleton, the new owner of Sun Records.  Here is a photo taken at this infamous jam session.  The woman was Marilyn Evans, the then girlfriend of Elvis.  The show was a fun recreation of that historic day.  At the end of the show this actual photo was flashed onto the stage!

In the quaint, turn of the century town of Columbia, Mark found the perfect spot for lunch!! Columbia Kate's tea house.  A great lunch on the outside patio!!  Yes, the bottom left photo is a rooster enjoying a bowl of water that they set out for the local roosters!

We had a great time in Sonora but its time to move on to our next stop, Jackson Rancheria RV Park in Jackson, CA.  Jackson Rancheria also has a casino, and the RV park is just beautiful!

We played Castle Rock Golf Course and came upon this most unique entrepreneurial effort on a golf course!!

We played a very scenic and fun golf course called Apple Mountain.  Yes, it was very mountainous with many elevated tees!!

We had a wonderful time at the shops in Jackson - Train Town Candies for unique taffy: carrot cake, lemon meringue, popcorn, bubble gum, etc.  We went to Vinceguerra's for home made ravioli and sauce.  You pick it up frozen and make it at home.  At the Best Little Kitchen store we found an interesting way to keep those bread bags closed and a meat thermometer.  At the lunch stop we picked up two quiches for our "go day" breakfast!!  Quite the haul for an hour or two of shopping.

It's our last night in Jackson so we decided to go to the "Old National Hotel" and have dinner at Stanley's Steakhouse.  Nothing exciting in the food photos, but, here is a shot of this hotel that dates back to the California Gold Rush Days.

Our next stop was Vacaville, CA.  We found two great golf courses, explored downtown Vacaville and had great fun at the expansive outlet mall.

Without a doubt, the highlight was a chance to visit with son, Nate and granddaughter, Chase!!  They had just come back from a spring break visit to Disneyland!

It's time to move on.  Our next stop is in Santa Rosa, California.  With a two week stay, we look forward to some time for some much needed "downtime."
