Durango CO - Animus River Bike Trail - 7/7/2013

Durango has a beautiful 15 mile round trip bike trail that follows the Animas River.  It is a nicely paved trail that runs right through the City.

You can see just how beautiful a trail is from this photo of a great stopping point.

So, stop we did and grab a quick drink of water.  Durango is at 6512 feet above sea level so you have to remember to hydrate!!  And, what a fashion statement with my helmet and matching gloves.

At one point we stopped to check out the kayakers.  Mark found a great vantage point...
and he snapped this great photo of them playing around in the kayak course.
On the way out we noticed this unique ice cream stop and there was no way we were going to miss it on the way back.
After much thought we settled for the Salted Caramel but I wish I had tried to Beet Poppyseed!!!

It was such a great stop that we stayed for a while and watched the tubers float down the river.
It was a hot day and the water level is very low so it made for a nice leisurely float.
Not only did we pass the river, we also paralleled and went over the tracks of the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

Here is a neat panoramic shot Mark took of one of the views from the bike trail.

There is just so much to do in Durango!!
